Alas, I could not attend the 2016 IA Summit. However, Dan Brown posted his presentation, "Crafting the discovery phase", on Slideshare.
In my comparison of UX discovery methods, I look at discovery methods based on attributes like scope and necessary resources. Dan looks at discovery methods based on what you're trying to accomplish: framing problems versus setting direction. He also organizes them based on whether you are diverging (generating options) or converging (choosing options).
It's a really solid slide deck, and he's working on a book around the same topic. I recommend taking a few minutes to check it out.
