UXLX Workshop: Build Better Products with Collaborative Teams
May 20, 2020 • Online
May 20, 2020, we worked through how do help your team collaborate around key parts of the design process. In all, we explored the keys to collaboration (presentation) and participated in three broad activities: introductions, idealized design, and journey mapping.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I ran the workshop remotely with ~20 participants from around the worlk
Below, I’ve collected resources relating to each activity. In addition, the Mural board remains accessible to revisit.

1. Keys to collaboration (presentation)
We reviewed two key points from this presentation. First, structure collaboration for success with a repeatable structure: Frame, Facilitate, and Finish. Second, manage successful facilitation with Open, Analyze, Synthesize, and Close. View this presentation online or preview here.
2. Introductions (activity)

We used introductions as the first activity two accomplish two objectives.
First, as a facilitator, introductions allow you to understand each participant’s background, so I could tailor the material.
Second, introductions allow everyone to try the tool, Mural, and make sure connections, access, and browsers would cooperate.
3. Collaborative product vision (activity)
Collaborative product vision works through three, related activities: What’s wrong with now? What’s right with now? What would the ideal world look like?
When your team has aligned on the same vision, it helps the entire team build a better product, faster. This three-part activity takes a page from systems design and Russel Ackoff’s “idealized design”.
Download the deck to run the activity with your team, or view the Future State Vision method on the PXD website for more information and materials.
4. Collaborative journey mapping (activity)
The customer journey creates a living canvas that documents how your users move through the system or how you want them to move through the system. This same canvas provides an opportunity for your team to design, plan, and troubleshoot how and when they can intersect to support user goals.
Download the deck to run the activity with your team, or view the Journey Map method on the PXD website for more information and materials.
